Carpet Stain Removal

Carpet Stain Removal

Stains are a part of every day life – on our shirts, furniture and most of all – carpets. They are unsightly, however from a carpet cleaning perspective, often misunderstood.

Consumers believe that stains have a singular solution, a one-spray fixes all type of deal. The problem with that is that, so do some carpet cleaners. Let me come out and say this – no such thing exists. There are too many variables to consider when approaching carpet stain removal, which is the reason why trained professionals have trouble answering the question over the phone without examining it first hand. Lets examine some of the common variables that come into play when looking at a stain.

1. Carpet Type.

  • Nylon
  • Polyester / Chromolon
  • Wool
  • Polypropylene (olefin)

These all display different properties and characteristics. For example, Nylon is a resilient fibre which responds very well to carpet cleaning while Wool (although naturally stain resistant) is a natural fibre meaning that its protein content is readily attacked by anything alkaline (which is found in many cleaning products).

2. Type of Stain

  • Soiling (Dirt, Grime etc)
  • Oily Stains
  • Ink Stains
  • Rust Stains
  • Red Wine Stains
  • Food dye stains
  • Vomit Stains
  • Milk Stains
  • Pet Stains
  • Furniture Stains
  • Food Stains

Again, the variables in the composition of each stain type determines the kind of solution that is needed. For example – a soil stain is generally pretty straight forward to solve but a food dye stain involves a complex procedure which takes much longer to solve.

3. Environment

  • Moisture content of the property
  • Amount of traffic
  • Pets
  • Residential or commercial setting
  • Proximity to the kitchen
